China Fisheries 2011

The company took its usual stand at the China Fisheries & Seafood Expo in Qingdao.

The show has grown now to be the second largest seafood exhibition in the world after ESE in Brussels.

Visitor numbers attending the event were up for the fifth consecutive year although the layout of the show this year meant that it took quite a while for visitors to get to the International Hall where all the main international pavilions were located. Fresh Catch was part of the Herring Buyers Association sponsored UK pavilion located alongside a number of other European and North and South American pavilions.

The number of enquiries taken by the company as always was very strong and means that a considerable amount of follow-up now needs to be undertaken.

Fresh Catch was represented by MD, Chris Anderson, Colin Anderson and his wife Yanzi alongisde Geoff Shewan who is head of sales and marketing for the Asia region. In attendance was support staff from Fresh Catch's local office in Qingdao.

The main discussion point among most of the international exhibitors and the Chinese buyers was the lack of fish being purchased at this time across key markets. Major seafood buyers such as China, Russia and Ukraine as well as some markets in Western Europe have seen a marked slow down in fish buying and as a result a number of European and North American processors are sitting on large stocks of fish with the hope that buying patterns will return soon to normal levels.

Fresh Catch's office in China is working on a number of initiatives to keep sales and marketing momentum going during this period and attendance at China Fisheries was a key part of that strategy.

Danfish Show in Aalborg Proves to be a Worthwhile Event

The company took its first ever stand at the Danfish Exhibition in Aaalborg in Northern Denmark (12-14 October 2011)

It proved to be a good decision as the team met a number of  Danish and Swedish skippers who land to Fresh Catch and were able to discuss options for 2012

It was also an opportunity to re-assure anyone that the fire in the facility back in July had not disrupted the company in any way

Ulrik Jacobsen who operates the Denmark Office for Fresh Catch joined Chris Anderson at the show to promote the on-going excellent work the company does in Scandinavia

A number of interesting leads are being followed up and we would like to thank everyone who visited us in Denmark at this show

Blaze at Factory Does Not Affect Fresh Catch

As mentioned on our Home page there was a fire at one of the outer buildings at Kirk Square on the evening of July 14th 2011.

This building was used by sister company Anderson Marine and was severe enough to destroy the building in question and everything inside.

Thankfully there were no staff on site at the time the blaze broke out so there were no injuries and although this incident disrupts business for Anderson Marine it has not affected Fresh Catch in any way.

Fresh Catch is open for business as usual and during the last few weeks the staff have been preparing the factory for the forthcoming herring season and then the mackerel season beyond that.

Indeed the Fresh Catch factory is looking as good as it ever has and everyone is looking forward to the fishing season getting underway soon.
